41st anniversary of Heavy Metal

Its the 41st anniversary of the release of the soundtrack to the movie ‘Heavy Metal’ based on the magazine of the same name. The soundtrack was released a few weeks before the actual movie with the first single being ‘Heavy Metal (Takin’ a Ride) by DON FELDER. The double LP would eventually peak at #12 in the US and contain tracks from BLACK SABBATH, BLUE OYSTER CULT, CHEAP TRICK, NAZARETH, JOURNEY, SAMMY HAGAR, GRAND FUNK RAILROAD, RIGGS, TRUST and others. The CD format would shake up the world in 1982 but ‘Heavy Metal’ wouldn’t be available on CD until 1995 due to the legal issues of all the artist involved.
