Jess and I have seen Sum 41 a few times but a couple friends of ours asked if we wanted to go and since it was their last tour we decided to and planned to meet up with them there the day of the show. The day before the show I ended up inviting my daughter with us since she is planning on moving out of state, I thought this would be a nice last minute Red Rock show and a way to spend time with her. The day of the show we got to the venue about 2:30 and we were the first ones there at the entrance where we lined up at. It wasn’t until about 4:30ish that the first group of people started lining up behind us. Then all of the sudden a lot of people started showing up. The friends we were supposed to meet up with ended up going to one of the other entrances, so we decided to meet up inside. We figured coming in from different angles might give us better chances to get the spots we wanted. We figured the first ones in would try and hold spots for the others. As we got closer to the doors, they moved us closer up. As we were standing there waiting to go in Lexi decided to make an alliance with a couple guys who were in line behind us. They had some people they were going to try and hold spots for like us. I knew they weren’t going to beat me to the spot, but I figured they might be able to help me hold off any people that might try and take our spots, so I agreed to the alliance. I told the one guy to give me your coat so I can use it to hold some spaces. He looked at me and said “you aren’t going to beat me”, after I told him I was a runner he agreed I was going to beat him and gave me his coat. Once they let us through, we bolted to the seats I was first there and I spread out and we managed to get more than enough seats for their friends and mine. The two guys were so thankful that I got us those spots and told them they could have more people come. They bought me a drink and told me they had snuck in a big water bottle filled with vodka and they had us covered all night, which they did! We had bought a couple lemonades, and they topped us off multiple times and was very heavy handed. We also had our own vodka which I had snuck in. As we waiting for the opening band to hit the stage, we hung out with the new friends we made, the friends we met up with and a couple of others who were also there but who had assigned seating.
The first band to play was Many Eyes, I had never heard of them. To be honest, I really liked them. They were a harder band than I expected for a Sum 41 opening band. They definitely didn’t give off a punk or alternative feel. I would certainly give their music another listen. The next band was The Interrupters. I know I have heard of them before, and Jess knew a couple of their songs, but I didn’t recognize any of their music. They also didn’t have a punk sound. They were more alternative in my opinion. They were upbeat and had the crowd dancing and a lot of people around us singing. Though they were good and entertaining it was such a different vibe that the opening band had. I will say that between the 2 opening bands the biggest highlight came between the 2 bands when Jess and I ran to the bathroom, and we saw one of the racoons again. I came out of the bathroom, and he was near the trash cans again. I called Jess over so she could see him and called Lexi who came running over to see him as well. Always a cool thing to see, would have been even cooler to see the babies we were told about but one day maybe we will.
When Sum 41 hit the stage, the place was packed, which wasn’t surprising since it was a sold-out show. We had the best GA spot you could have which was just 8 rows back. With a great view we along with the crowd were pumped. Being this was my 3rd time seeing Sum 41 I knew more songs this time around. I also feel like they played more songs this time than the last 2 times we saw them, I am not sure if that is true or not but either way. They put on a great show. For this to be their last tour I think they did a great one and they played all the songs I know! I am glad we were able to make it!
