I wasn’t planning on attending this show when they announced it because I have seen both bands within the last couple of years and I’m still trying to save up the upcoming Metallica trips. However, when live nation did a sale for $25 a ticket and my son was interested in going, we decided to go ahead and buy tickets. I coordinated with another friend of mine to buy tickets at the same time so we could get seats together, which we did.
The day of the show my son decided he wasn’t going to be able to make it, so I invited another friend of mine and even though it was last minute he was able to make it. However, we didn’t get out of town until 4:30 and the show was supposed to start at 6:30 it was going to be tight getting there on time. Then we ran into traffic going up which made us late. We didn’t get there until almost 7ish. As we were on our way in, I found a guy who was selling parking lot shirts and after negotiating with him we got a good deal on 4 shirts for all of us. As we headed in, we had to check in because they were upgrading everyone in the 300 level since it wasn’t a sold-out show. Unfortunately, since we didn’t get there at the same time as our friend we didn’t get seats next to him. Although after Mudvayne was over he and his kid did move over to our section since there were a lot of open seats in front of us.
As we were walking in Mudvayne was already playing, Jess and Lexi took off to get a drink and go to the bathroom. Me and my friend who went up with us went to our seats. After sitting there for a few minutes Lexi walks up and says we are in the wrong seats! We ended up in the section over. So, then we moved over to our seats and joined the rest of the group. Mudvayne put on a great set as usual, they played some good songs though to be honest they could have put together a much better set list. Either way it was still good, and we enjoyed their set.
After their set, as I said our other friend joined us and we ended up seeing another friend of ours who also joined us. While we were all standing there hanging out another friend who was down in the pit came up to say hi. As we were all standing there, I happened to noticed one of the DJs from the radio station. I went up and said hi to him and that’s when he told me he no longer worked at the station, and he was just there enjoying the show. He mentioned that his friend he was meeting bailed on him, so I invited him to join our group which he did. While we were all hanging out, he offered his extra ticket he had for another show with Black Stone Cherry and Non Point. Jess and Lexi told him if he was for real, they would buy their tickets right then and there, which he did and so did they.
Megadeth came on and they also put on a great set. They played all their top hits. I was very surprised first at the low-ticket sales that we were upgraded all the way down to the 100 level and even more surprised to see how many people left after Mudvayne. The crowd on the floor shrunk half its size when Megadeth came out. There were a lot of people even in our section and part of our group that left early. I was also a little surprised that the show ended at 10:30 not 11 like most shows do. Either way we had a great time and I’m glad we went and got to hang out with a lot of our friends.
